Share/Save/Bookmark

The Dynasty of Lao concept came about as a way to share information on interesting people, places and things that might not actually be right in your own back yard.  About 10% of this content will be personal musings, and the rest is a grab bag with features sometimes pertaining to the most interesting and coolest city on earth, Los Angeles, as well as what's going on in the world.  The site is meant to be eclectic, broadening, nostalgic and maybe a learning experience, but most of all, fun.  Pop culture, current events, etc.  I hope you enjoy your stay and come back as often as you can.

"Someone had said, and Wilhelm agreed with the saying, that in Los Angeles all the loose objects in the country were collected, as if America had been tilted and everything that wasn't tightly screwed down had slid into Southern California."

mobile food trucks so l.a.!

The phenomenon of the gourmet "roach coach" has it's beginnings in this city.  Patrons which have a nearly cultic obsession with them, are usually alerted by social media, such as Twitter or a simple e-mail from friends.  As soon as the location is established and the truck arrives, SWARMS of hungry people descend upon it like a swarm of locust.  Now, there seems to be places were many trucks can gather and dole out their delcious food to the masses in various vacant lots around the metropolis.  KEEP READING...

The famed Pasadena Playhouse has shut its doors.  Saddled with 3 million dollars of debt, the national landmark, which launched the careers of countless Hollywood stars, is now dark.  KEEP READING...

evacuate now

Citing the incoming storm and risk of mudslides, county officials tonight warned foothill residents in Station Fire burn areas that mandatory evacuation orders will go into effect this morning. By 10 a.m., residents of over 500 homes (.pdf) must vacate their La Crescenta, La Canada Flintridge, and Acton neighborhoods, according to an alert stated.

The world famous HOLLYWOOD SIGN saga continues...

There are two choices for the 138 acres of private land sitting to the left of the Hollywood Sign: develop it into a site for luxury living or leave it as open space. What happens next is up to the community, or perhaps, the world at large. KEEP READING...

the nuthouse

From the L.A. Weekly...

I am a regular patron of Aladdin Nuthouse, one of the better Armenian nut vendors in town, a place with a half-dozen kinds of melon seeds, delicious sesame peanuts, and a way of roasting hazelnuts and almonds that not only brings out the full, round flavor of the nuts but leaves them rimed with salt. You can find fresh Middle Eastern spices and baklava imported from Lebanon. KEEP READING...

angel town gets another storm

Yet another winter storm is headed our way.  Expecting another inch starting this afternoon and into the evening.  Possible thunderstorms.  We are officially five inches above normal for the year, and we need every bit of it.  Unfortunately, heavy rain causes mudslides and flooding.  It looks like as the storm clears out of our area, the rest of the country will be belted with more snow.

I'm so ready for springtime.

J-TOWN GETS NEW METERS

Little Tokyo now has new meters for street parking.  We have similar meters in Glendale, which also take debit cards.  I recently tried one out last month in Glendale, and didn't like it.  Coins seem easier, and the instructions for the debit card were confusing (BTW, I use my debit card all the time and without difficulity).

I hope these meters are better.  As for me, I rather dole out the 3 bucks and park all day in a lot.

IN CELEBRATION OF THE PANCAKE

February is National Pancake Month.  Pancakes are just one of those perfect foods, I think.  Not only do I eat them for breakfast, but also have them sometimes for dinner.  They can be made a variety of ways with all sorts of ingredients.  I remember when I was very young and taking trips to Disneyland with my family, one of the first things we'd do after walking the one side of Main Street, was to have our breakfast at Aunt Jemimah's pancake house in Adventure Land for that special "Mickey Mouse" pancake they'd serve.

Now as an adult, pancakes are normally done at home and Morinaga pancake mix is my "cake" of choice.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND MOVIE STILLS LEAKED

I don't know about you, but I'm jazzed about the upcoming Alice in Wonderland movie with Tim Burton.  Judging from these stills, which compare them to original or older illustrations and the Disney movie, it looks like it's going to be phenomenal.
