Share/Save/Bookmark

The Dynasty of Lao concept came about as a way to share information on interesting people, places and things that might not actually be right in your own back yard.  About 10% of this content will be personal musings, and the rest is a grab bag with features sometimes pertaining to the most interesting and coolest city on earth, Los Angeles, as well as what's going on in the world.  The site is meant to be eclectic, broadening, nostalgic and maybe a learning experience, but most of all, fun.  Pop culture, current events, etc.  I hope you enjoy your stay and come back as often as you can.

"Someone had said, and Wilhelm agreed with the saying, that in Los Angeles all the loose objects in the country were collected, as if America had been tilted and everything that wasn't tightly screwed down had slid into Southern California."

NAKED COKE

It doesn't only look beautiful, and it would make Jon Ive and Steve Jobs wet, but this naked Coca-Cola can would help save energy while reducing air and water pollution. Would it really make a difference? Let's do some math...

A HEAVY MEAL

Margaret Daalman came to hospital complaining of stomach ache - and one glance at her X-ray shows why.

Surgeons in Rotterdam in the Netherlands were flabbergasted when X-rays showed 78 different items of cutlery in the 52-year-old woman's stomach.

They rushed her to surgery in a desperate attempt to remove the dozens of forks and spoons trapped inside her body one by one.

THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS

How many words do you speak during an average day? No, I am not talking about text messages, emails, or slang chatroom words, I am talking about words that actually come out of your mouth.

The average figure is 16,000 words. Even then, much of what we say can be meaningless chit-chat, brisk, necessary exchanges or even angry rants. Here are ten things that we could all do with saying more often. While reading, I'll bet you believe the list is pretty simplistic. However, the positive impact they will have on your mood and your day is pretty dramatic.

KIT KATS

This clever candy is packaged to look like our favorite lucky cat, Maneki Neko! But open the cellophane and all you get are two white balls of candy. The cellophane is where the cat is at -in fact there are several wrappers with different cat expressions.

NEXT, THE STAMPS

From J&D's, the people who brought you Bacon Salt and Baconnaise (among other bacon-flavored products), come bacon-flavored envelopes. Yeah, instead of tasting like paste, you can now dream of breakfast as you pay your bills.

(PS: I checked out the Bacon Salt when I was up in Solvang recently, and it wasn't very interesting.  Perhpas the mayo is better?)

MYSTERY SOLVED

A few months ago, I went to an In-N-Out before seeing a movie.

When I sat down in the booth, there was this package of peppers sealed in a small, clear plastic bag.  I stared at it for a few moments and began my Double-Double feast.  The peppers remained on the table and I kept thinking to myself, "How utterly random!"  It was like someone brought them in, and just left it there on the table, forgotten.

Well, the mystery has finally be solved.  Click HERE for the why.

TV TIMES

After searching and researching, stops-and-gos, and just about everything else there that goes into purchasing things electronic, I finally bought an HD Flat-panel TV.

It wasn't easy.  The road was fraught with options, considerations and, we'll a few sleepless nights.

Philips was the only brand I would considerer.  My old TV was a Philips (CRT-type) that had the most remarkable picture I have ever seen on any non-HD set.  I has served me well.  Find a Philips is getting more difficult here in the States, as they have stopped shipping them here.  Funai, a Japanese company known for their "Black Friday Specials" for stores such as Wal-Mart and the like, has taken over the brand, here.  I doubt if the quality will ever be as good as it use to be, as a result.

I got a 47" 6000 series for nearly half the price of retail at Sams Club.  It even included free delivery!

The cable company has set everything up, including swapping out my DVR for an HD version and tonight, I will be wrapping myself in the warm, feel good embrace of Hi-Def.

Now, on to the next gadget...a Blu Ray player.  Oh, angst!  How you taunt me!

GLOW DRESS

24,000 full-color, super-thin LEDs, 4,000 Swarovski crystals, and enough iPod batteries to keep everything glowing for about an hour. This picture doesn't do the Galaxy Dress justice, but the video comes close. This gorgeous thing was designed by Francesca Rosella and Ryan Genz and they say that it's the "the largest wearable display in the world." I don't know if that's true or not, but I do know that I wanted to cry when I read that the dress went straight from the sewing room to the museum mannequin, without ever being worn by a real woman. THE ULTIMATE YACHT

Antivari: This revolutionary concept of the moving island is developed with latest and most advanced technologies, recycling thermal energy, as well as any organic and inorganic waste. The architecture of the project fits perfectly in the environment- there are no excesses, nothing is superfluous, the impact on the sea is minimal. Dumas: We hope to open a new path, to offer a new lifestyle that is different, serene, contemplative and respectful of the environment, moving slowly on the water, combining the pleasure of sailing and absolute comfort.

SPICY CANDIED BACON

Haven't run a bacon entry in while, but here's one that should peak your interest...

The distinctive red stripes, the mouth-watering aroma, the snapping sizzle from the pan, the crisp texture and, of course, the intense, porky flavor. With a food that pleasures all five of our senses, how can we resist the temptation of sinfully delicious bacon?  -- KEEP READING
